What Our Clients Say?
A sludge thickener is primarily used for collecting and conveying sludge in sedimentation tanks. Through the continuous movement of scrapers, it gathers sludge deposited at the bottom of the tank and directs it to the sludge discharge area, thereby improving the efficiency of solid-liquid separation. It is a key piece of equipment in municipal wastewater treatment and industrial wastewater treatment systems.
When selecting a sludge thickener, factors such as the type of sedimentation tank, tank dimensions, treatment flow rate, sludge characteristics, and operating environment must be considered. Aiton Environmental can provide tailored solutions based on project parameters to ensure the equipment’s operational efficiency and service life.
Yes. Aiton Environmental offers custom designs based on sedimentation tank dimensions, installation methods, treatment capacity, and on-site conditions—including structural dimensions, material selection, and drive methods—to meet the needs of various wastewater treatment projects.
The warranty for the entire unit is 12 months (excluding wear-and-tear parts such as scrapers, travel wheels, and seals). The warranty period begins on the date the equipment passes commissioning. During the warranty period, if quality issues with the equipment are not caused by human factors, we will provide free repair and replacement of parts.
Equipment malfunctions or damage resulting from unauthorized disassembly, improper operation, non-compliant installation, intentional damage, or force majeure events such as natural disasters are not covered by the warranty.
- Required sludge thickener type (center-driven, peripheral-driven, traveling-bridge type, full-bridge type, etc.)
- Tank dimensions, span, and shape (circular/rectangular)
- Wastewater flow rate and sludge properties (e.g., sand content, corrosiveness)
- Drive type, motor power, and gearbox model
- Material requirements (e.g., stainless steel, carbon steel, anti-corrosion treatment, etc.)
Generally, the materials used are: anti-corrosion-treated carbon steel above water and 304 stainless steel below water.
The gantry-type sludge thickener moves back and forth along a rectangular settling tank. It is ideal for municipal, industrial, and water treatment projects. Its dimensions and operating modes can be customized to meet your project’s needs.

What routine maintenance is required for a sludge thickener?
Routine maintenance of the sludge thickener primarily includes:
- Checking the operating condition of the drive system.
- Lubricating the transmission components.
- Inspecting the scrapers for wear.
- Tightening connecting bolts and removing foreign objects.
Operators should inspect the equipment regularly. If any abnormal noise, vibration, or unusual rotational speed is detected, immediate action should be taken. Preventive maintenance ensures stable equipment operation.
What are the commonly used materials for sludge thickeners? How should they be selected?
The selection of materials must take into account a combination of factors, including water quality, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and service life.
- 304 stainless steel: For typical municipal wastewater applications.
- 316L stainless steel: For highly corrosive wastewater from chemical, dyeing, and pickling processes.
- Thicker scrapers made of wear-resistant materials: For mining and ore-washing wastewater with high sand content.
What is over-torque protection?
Over-torque protection is a critical-important feature of sludge thickeners. When sludge accumulates too thickly at the bottom of the tank or debris becomes lodged, the torque on the sludge scraper shaft increases. If the torque exceeds the equipment’s limit, the motor stops rotating, and the over-torque protection device will open to shut down the motor. It can prevent serious demages like deformation of the scraper arms, damage to the gears, and motor burnout.
Center-drive sludge thickener vs Peripheral-drive sludge thickener, what’s the difference?
Center-Drive Sludge Thickeners: The drive unit is installed at the center of the tank and rotates to drive the scraper arms to collect sludge. They feature a compact structure and stable operation. Suitable for small- to medium-sized circular sedimentation tanks.
Peripheral-Drive Sludge Thickeners: The drive unit is located at the edge of the tank, offering greater driving force. Suitable for large circular sedimentation tanks.
What kind of sludge thickener is not affected by inclined tube fillers?
Single-track chain-type sludge thickeners and hydraulic reciprocating sludge thickeners are not affected by inclined tube fillers.
Since the monorail chain-type sludge thickener and the hydraulic reciprocating sludge thickener are installed at the bottom of the sedimentation tank, while inclined tube fillers are usually installed in the settling zone at the top of the tank, their operating areas are independent,so the operation of the sludge thickeners does not affect the inclined tube structure or the sedimentation process.
